Upon the successful launch of the Xbox 360, gamers around the world praised its high performance, graphics, and library of games available. Microsoft became aware of the issue and decided to extend the original Microsoft Xbox 360 Repair warranty from 90 days to a full year.  Later after repeated complaints of the Red Ring of Death error Microsoft again extened the warranty of the console to three years. However, this three year warranty applies only to people suffering from the three red lights problem.  

Any other problem will only be covered for the one year warranty. Although people will finally find some relief in getting their red light problems fixed for free, they will still need to wait around 6 weeks for their system to come back fully functional.

Other Warranty Information

As long as the problem falls in the Xbox 360 repair warranty’s terms, people can take advantage of it and after a warranty repair is made, a 1 month Xbox Live Gold subscription card is given away for free to compensate the damage.

There are a number of gamers that try to reduce the overheating issues by purchasing unlicensed products from 3rd party makers that claim to reduce the chances of serious hardware fails. However this is yet to be proven which explains why Microsoft hasn’t licensed it.

Voiding the Warranty

On top of that, many problems with this add-on are reported with the main issue to be the power AC input being scorched. Use of these products void the warranty and should be used at your own risk. It is generally never a good idea to use these products especially if you still have time left on the warranty period.

The same is true with opening your Xbox 360 system for modding purposes or performing your own fixes. These actions do void the warranty on your system so keep this in mind before opening your Xbox.

There are also reports that the Xbox disk tray may scratch the disc when it is not performing properly. Although this situation isn’t covered by the Microsoft Xbox 360 repair warranty, there is an ongoing Microsoft Xbox Disc Replacement Program that replaces damaged discs of certain titles for $20. Other publishers have aided in this by offering disc exchanges as well.

To make the most out of this warranty, take great care of your system. Also do not use any unlicensed peripherals including the cooling systems. It won’t guarantee that your system won’t break, but your Microft Xbox 360 repair warranty will take care of that with minimal problems.
