Let’s say you’re
staring at 3 flashing red lights on your Xbox 360. You
probably know
by now that it’s the Xbox
360 red ring of death, the most feared of the Xbox
360
problems amongst gamers. Your game discs can’t be read by the
system and
you can’t play Halo 3. The console has frozen, stalled and shut down.
You can’t boot up your system and it feels as hot as Sahara sand. Your Xbox
360
warranty has expired or is void and you can’t send
it to Microsoft for
free repairs. So, now you’ve decided to fix the problem yourself. You
first have to get your Xbox open to do the necessary repairs. Here’s
how to open Xbox 360 safely.
Obtain
Correct Tools
You have to equip yourself with the correct tools as part of the
requirements on how to open Xbox 360. Here is a list of all the tools
that you will need to open your Xbox 360.
- Paper
clip, or some other small pointy object
- Knife,
or other sharp pointy object
- T10 Torx
screw driver
These
tools are the minimum that you need to get the Xbox 360 open.
Step 1:
Remove the Faceplate
The first step to open your Xbox 360 is to remove the
faceplate. You can do this easily by pressing your fingers
into the USB door and pulling the faceplate off.
Step 2:
Remove the Hardrive
Next you want to remove the hard drive by pressing the release button
on the drive.
Step 3:
Remove the Side Panels
Now you want to grab your paper clip or some other pointy
object. You are going to use this to remove the side
panels. There are tabs inside each of the side
panels. Use the paper clip to push in the tabs while pulling
up the side panels to remove them.
On the side where the hard drive reconnects there are some tabs you may
not be able to see. To get to these tabs you have to locate the two
access holes near where the hard drive fits. You then place the paper
clip in the access hole behind the tab and pry it open. It is a little
tricky to do.
Step 4:
Remove the Bottom Casing
Next, grab your knife or other pointy object. On the back of
the console you will find 7 notches where the top and bottom cases
connect. Each of these notches have to be released.
Stick the knife in the notches and you will hear a click.
Then release the tabs in the front of the console with your
finger. Now you should be able to remove the bottom portion
of the console.
Step 5:
Remove the Top Casing
To remove the top casing the first thing that you have to do is to
remove the eject button. This is important so that it does
not break when removing the top casing.
After you have removed the eject button grab your T10 Torx screw
driver. Remove the screws from the case making a note of where the long
screws and the short screws need to be when you reassemble your Xbox
360.
Now you should be able to remove the top cover and you are all done.
Now this is a whole lot easier to show you than it is to tell
you. The Xbox
