As an avid Xbox
gamer, you may have heard of the horror stories of the red lights and
stalled consoles. Well, for your information, all the tales are true.
When the 3 red lights appear, your Xbox 360 freezes and literally shuts
down. It’s as good as done because you can’t continue gaming.
The 3 red lights signal that the electrical connection between the CPU,
GPU and motherboard is disrupted. Your Xbox then stalls.
To avoid the possibility of dropping out from Xbox live online and
thereby losing level progress from the faulty Xbox 360, you should
watch out for signs that your Xbox 360 could be headed toward 3 red
lights error.
Gaming Too
Long
The red lights error happens quite frequently to Xbox 360 consoles that
have been played particularly hard. If you’ve been gaming for extended
periods of time, there’s a greater likelihood that at some point you’re
going to experience the 3 red lights. It won’t normally occur within
the first few weeks of gaming.
But you can rest assured that after a couple of months of concentrating
on your gaming sessions, to the exclusion of almost everything else,
your Xbox may start exhibiting signs that point ominously to the onset
of red lights.
Freezes and
Glitches
Your screen would start manifesting some weird graphics problems and
begin to freeze up. There are technical glitches to the graphics.
Perhaps the game doesn’t play as quickly or the boot up takes an
unusually long time.
Strange Noises
You’ll hear queer noises emanating from your console. They may resemble
chronic screeches or static-like sounds. This happens when the
motherboard begins to vibrate. Strange sounds from your Xbox are a red
flag that you must promptly pay attention to.
No Console
Response
Another sign that your Xbox is heading down the red rings road is when
the only reaction you elicit from your favorite toy is when you turn
the power button on and off. The console does not boot up. No graphics
are displayed onscreen when you insert a game disc into the drive.
Error Messages
An error message - E74 - may come onscreen. This informs you that your
disc is unreadable. You may not be able to decipher what that means
exactly but it’s really quite literal: your console can’t play your
games from the disc.
Overheating
Extended gaming will cause your Xbox 360 to overheat. As the
temperature rapidly rises, coupled with poor ventilation and inadequate
cooling mechanisms, the motherboard will start to vibrate. Your console
then begins to emit weird noises.
The heat build-up will result in the soldering that connects the CPU
and GPU to the motherboard to melt and crack. The joints become loose
and the signals between the processors and the motherboard are
disrupted. Your console seizes up and the 3 red lights begin to flash.
Those are the many different signs that give warning your Xbox could be
headed toward the 3 red lights error. Being aware of them is the first
step to taking preventive action to save your Xbox 360 from permanent
damage and to repair the faults.
